Palatine is a northwestern residential suburb of Chicago and is the 16th largest community in Illinois. It also is the sixth largest community in Cook County. Palatine is filled with several streams that meet up with Salt Creek and lie within Buffalo Creek. Located near the O’Hare International Airport, you can find several activities, restaurants, bars, and parks, including the Palatine Park District.

Palatine Township was founded in 1835 by it's first settlers who settled in wooded areas like Englishman's Grove, Highland Grove, and Deer Grove. The State Constitution designated the Palatine Township "Township 42." The name for the township was decided in 1850 by the townspeople and was thought to have originate from "Palatinate" which was an area along the Rhine River in Germany.

The first meeting for the Palatine township was held on April 2, 1850 and still to this day is held annually. This meeting offers people to voice their concerns and it is also encouraged that they attend the regular board meetings as well.

Palatine's major highways include 14 (Northwest Highway), US Routes 12 (Rand Road), and Interstate 290/Illinois Route 53, Interstate 90 (2 miles south), and Interstate 294 (8 miles east).

Servicing Palatine to downtown Chicago, the Metra's Northwest Union Pacific line is located at 137 W. Wood St.

PACE Bus Route 723 serves Northeast Palatine to Arlington Park. PACE Bus Route 699 goes from Palatine to Woodfield to Elk Grove Village. Both bus routes operate Monday-Friday, no holidays.

Lamplighter Inn, 60 N. Bothwell St., (847) 991-2420, live performances, outdoor patio, opens at 6am, great beer specials, good food, fun crowd, and a local favorite. You cannot go wrong here!

Jester’s, 1503 N. Rand Rd., (847) 259-3000, this is a great dive bar with a juke box filled with tunes to keep you dancing all night long. Filled with locals, Jester’s had 3 pool tables, cheap snacks, and very good drinks.

Pete’s of Palatine, 18 N. Bothwell St., (847) 202-9069, known for their award wining hot wings, Pete’s has a great variety of menu options and well as drinks. Plenty of TV's, 1 dart board, plenty of room to sit and a variety of seating arrangements.

Orbit Skate Center, 615 S Consumers, (847) 394-9199, offers huge half acre wood floors for all skating. Orbit Skate Center provides lessons, public sessions, birthday parties, and private parties for children, teens, and adults. Orbit Skate Center is know to be the best roller skating rink in the north suburbs.

Mexico Uno, 15 N. Brockway St., (847) 358-6856, stop here for great authentic Mexican food. Prices range from $9 - $15. From breakfast to dinner you will find everything from huevos rancheros to stuffed peppers, margaritas and guacamole to die for! There is free parking. The Pace Bus 699 and the Metra Train are available for public transportation.

Rosati’s Pizza, 225 W. Dundee Rd., (847) 991-6350 sells the largest pizza in the suburbs, a monstrous 28" pie that feeds about 8 to 10. The carry-out only restaurant is also famous for ribs and specialty pizzas like the hot buffalo pizza and bacon cheeseburger pizza. Planning a party? Their party deal includes a two-topping pizza with breadsticks, wings and soda to easily feed six people.


TopFestivals/Parks


Palatine Park District, serves 85,000 residents and is governed by five elected Park Commissioners. Townships include Palatine, Rolling Meadows, Arlington Heights, Inverness, Hoffman Estates and Barrington communities.

The Palatine Park District includes two recreational centers (Community Center & Birchwood) and four swimming pools (Family Aquatic Center, Birchwood, Eagle and Willow). A third recreation center is in the works at Falcon Park.

Downtown Palatine Street Fest  is an annual hometown favorite festival. It was began in 2000 as a small hometown event that ends the summer with one last outdoor street party. Come with family, friends, and neighbors to enjoy great food, good music, taste the local restaurants’ cuisine, participate in fun games, and most of all have a good time!
